Buy and Hold vs. Moving Average ETF Investing 3-5-10

Last week was very good in the markets. The S&P closed up higher 4 out of 5 days and overall was up over 33 points for the week. Our two investors, Buy and Hold and Moving Average, have seen their ETF portfolios grow to all time highs (see the chart below).

The buy and hold ETF investor saw a nice jump of about $543 in the balanced ETF portfolio. His total portfolio balance is currently $15,366 and the total gain is 53% since we starting tracking this portfolio in March of 2009 (53 weeks ago).

The moving average ETF investor gained about $367 for the week. His portfolio is now valued at $11,185 (same balanced portfolio). He has gained 11.4% for the same 53 week period.

Moving average update:

The 50 day moving average is still above the 200 day moving average for all 10 ETFs from the diversified ETF Portfolio. As a result, no changes are made to the moving average ETF portfolio.
