ETF Investing Strategies: Buy and Hold vs. Moving Average Week Ending 1-22-10

Ouch! The S&P 500 moved down sharply this week, losing over 44 points. This is the second decline in a row. Our investors are smarting from this market correction.

The buy and hold ETF investor lost about $542 in the balanced ETF portfolio. His total portfolio balance is now down to $14,705. The total gain is 46.4% since we starting tracking this portfolio in March of 2009 (47 weeks ago).

The moving average ETF investor lost about $378 for the week. His portfolio is valued at $10,743 and is invested in the same balanced portfolio. He has gained 7% for the same 47 weeks.

These past 2 weeks have been a pretty strong move down. Unless there is now underlying investor fear over the economy taking back over, I would suspect the market to start moving positive again.
