ETF Investing Strategies: Buy and Hold vs. Moving Average Week Ending 1-8-10

The New Year is off to a great start in the U.S. financial markets. Each day this week, the S&P 500 closed up over the previous day. For the week, the S&P 500 was up 28 points which is a very nice week.

As a result, our two ETF investors have had a very nice week as well. The buy and hold ETF investor gained a very nice $380 for the week in the balanced ETF portfolio. His total portfolio balance is now at an all time high of $15,354 for a gain of 52.9% since we starting tracking this portfolio in March of 2009 (45 weeks ago).

The moving average ETF investor gained about $267 for the week. His portfolio is also at an all time high of $11,180 and is invested in the same balanced portfolio. He has gained 11.3% thus far for the same 45 weeks.
