ETF Investing Strategies: Buy and Hold vs. Moving Average Week Ending 12-18-09

The S&P 500 lost just over 5 points for this past week. I've heard pundits say that trading volume is light this time of year but Thursday and Friday were very heavy trading days so there was still quite a bit of investing/trading occurring this past week.

Our two ETF investors, Buy and Hold and Moving Average, both experienced losses for the 2nd straight week although the losses were quite small. The buy and hold ETF investor lost about $20 for the week in the balanced ETF portfolio. His total portfolio is currently valued at $14,921.75 for a gain of 48.6% since we starting tracking this portfolio 42 weeks ago.

The moving average ETF investor lost about $14 for the week. He has $10,883.64 invested in the same balanced portfolio. He has gained 8.4% thus far for the same 41 weeks.
